2nd COLD WAR OR A 3RD WORLD WAR?

Updated: May 4

After the end of two disastrous wars in the form of world war 1 and world war 2, the world has witnessed a rivalry between two superpowers – USA & USSR {former Soviet Union}. It was known as the cold war. It was not the actual war like the world war but it defiantly created a constant fear of bursting war between the two superpowers. It included various proxy wars, arms race, and ideological differences.

Now the world is again perceiving the same condition after the Iranian commander Qassem Soleimani has been killed in a US drone strike ordered by President Trump. Although there was a problem in the west Asian regions for decades. In this region, there are two powerful countries – Iran and Saudi Arabia. There is a difference between RIYADH and TEHRAN but they never faced each other directly in the war, rather they were in the proxy war in other neighboring countries like IRAQ, SYRIA, YEMEN.

But now there is a twist in the state of affairs when the USA entered the frame. Although the USA was involved in earlier affairs of the middle east as a supplier of arms, ammunition and mainly remains in the bottom of the picture. After killing General Soleimani and withdrawing from the nuclear accord which was signed by former President Obama, USA, under President Trump has created a cold war-like situation.

However, if compared Iran does not match the military and equipment level of USA but at the same time, it has much greater influence in the middle east region and the missile attack by the Iranian forces in the US military bases in Erbil, the capital of the Iraqi Kurdistan in the north and Al- Asad in west Iraq as a retaliation proves that Iran can go further.

Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif had said the strikes “concluded” Tehran's response to the killing of Sobimani.

The USA said that there were no American Casualties and only minimal damage in the attack. President Trump in his later response said that he is backing from further conflict. Hope Mr. president will be stuck into his words because further violence will take the gulf countries to ever more disastrous phase. It could also disrupt global oil supply and could have been created a state of dilemma for the alliance countries of the USA and IRAN.

It is now a time for the international community to take a charge by pushing both USA & IRAN for a diplomatic solution and find ways to revive the nuclear deal which is signed of peace itself.
